行き違いになる

Two messages can both be reasonable yet cross at the wrong moment. Name the failed connection before deciding whether anyone actually misunderstood.

1 · Natural input · about 3 minutes

二つの連絡が交差した

Read once for what each person sent, then aloud as both speakers. On the second pass, track timing separately from understanding.

Notice: first describes the coordination failure: the two messages crossed without forming one shared timeline. It does not yet claim that their contents contradict each other.

Recall: Which message was sent first, and why could the client now hold the wrong schedule? Answer in Japanese before continuing.

2 · Lexical neighborhood + retrieval · about 4 minutes

Did the paths, meanings, or beliefs miss?

Picture two arrows. With , they travel on different routes or at different times and fail to connect. This can happen to people, calls, messages, or intentions. Shogakukan’s entries for 行き違う and 行き違い cover both missing one another and intentions failing to connect.

After locating that failed connection, change the camera if needed: compare conflicting content with , or name one person’s mistaken belief with .

Paths, timing, or communications miss their connection.
People pass closely, or a conversation fails to engage at the same point.
Two accounts, figures, opinions, or understandings differ.
One person settles on a mistaken interpretation.

Retrieve 1 · Locate the mismatch

Use , changing the form as needed.

The first locates a missed meeting, the second conflicting content, the third one mistaken belief, and the fourth a conversation whose points do not meet.

Retrieve 2 · Generic to natural

Make this explanation more precise. The messages were individually clear, but their timing caused the problem:

packages the crossed communication; the two messages do not need to be called wrong.

Retrieve 3 · Diagnose before repairing

In one sentence, say that the messages crossed, you will check whether the two understandings differ, and you will send a corrected message to prevent a mistaken belief.

This recycles from lesson 0003: repair the message after identifying what failed.

3 · Naturalness check · about 1 minute

Do not flatten every mismatch into 違う

merely says “different” and leaves the event vague. Use when the messages crossed and failed to connect.

Here the documents arrived; their contents conflict. The useful camera is , not the route or timing of delivery.

4 · Speaking retrieval · about 2 minutes

Repair a scheduling mix-up

Take 20 seconds for cue words, then speak for 60–90 seconds. Use plus at least two of .

  1. A client received both the old date and a proposed new date.
  2. Explain how two messages crossed.
  3. Distinguish the timing problem from any conflicting understanding.
  4. Say what you will confirm with the client.
  5. Explain how you will repair the communication and update the team.

Ask me a follow-up question or send your spoken version for feedback. Seeing the model is not evidence of mastery; repeat later with a missed delivery or two people waiting at different entrances.
